It's come to my attention that I might really want to work this summer. And seeing as I'm really good at writing, especially creatively, I would to write during the summer.

I know I don't have many, if any, followers, but if I do, please help. I need to know where there are openings or if anyone is interested.

Dragon Ball: Legacy

So awhile ago, I began to think about how a Super Saiyan would change the DC Universe. How would he/she compare to the heroes/villians? Would they be invincible compare to everyone else? Who would his/her rogue gallery consist of?

Naturally, I began to think and created an idea for a series to exist within the DC Universe. The original plan was a little weak, especially since the series starts after the protagonist has obtained the ability to go Super Saiyan. I didn't want to change that aspect of the story, so I just needed develop some more conflicts other than the ones that could be solved through fighting. But what conflict would a good guy with that much power have? Then the answer came to me: In DragonBall Z, most of the good guys don't even hesitate to kill an enemy. Yet, Superman, one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe, will let an enemy surrender. So one of the biggest conflicts surrounding these DragonBall-esque characters would be their attitude towards killing their enemies and will place them in conflict with most of the other heroes.

I would also like to use that series to explore other parts of the DragonBall Universe. I've always wondered what was the name of the species Frieza belonged to. I had an idea to make the Saibamen an extremely intelligent race that sells more primitive Saibamen to those willing to pay. The Saibamen sold would be like those Nappa and Vegeta used when they first arrived on Earth in DragonBall Z.

Bringing to my next point: I would really like have a lot of throwbacks in this series. So there would be Androids, a Cooler-esque character, a Majin Buu-esque character and a Broly-esque character. No Cell-esque character because I want to be a little original. I don't want my character to reach Super Saiyan 3 or above, so the most powerful form he's likely to receive will probably similar to Gohan's Ultimate Form. His biggest strength will be his speed. I want him to be able to be seen as the strongest hero in the world by his peers, but when he faces an enemy that can out-muscle him, the main character will rely on his speed.

I'm going to conclude this post with a discussion on how canon this series will be compared to the real DB Universe. In this world, the Saiyans were wiped out be Frieza expect for a splinter group that were formed by Vegeta, Raditz and Nappa, along with a few more not named in the series. Bardock and Frieza killed each other and Goku was still on Planet Vegeta when it blew up. Earth follows the DC continuity, so it won't be like the DB Earth. I have some finer points to work out but that's about it so far.

I would love it if I could write this series for DC. That would be a dream job.

Awesome Fake Pokemon Pictures

So I recently found these really cool original Pokemon drawings on deviantART by an artist named darksilvania. One of the coolest things about these Pokemon is that because a lot of them are distinctly inspired by different parts of the world, it makes the idea of a Pokemon MMO set in on Earth even more plausible. Plus, the sheer number of Pokemon darksilvania has come up with  so far makes population the Earth with Pokemon that much easier.

Here are some samples of what I'm talking about. If you like what you see, check out his gallery

It's Been Awhile

I haven't been able to post in awhile and that's a lie. I've been able to but I just have so much stuff going on sometimes that I simply forget that I should post. So I'm sorry.

So I sent an application for a Blizzard Internship(Game Design Intern) and with my application I sent two Word documents: a 8(or 9) paged background story for a WoW expansion idea and a 21 paged raid outline for an end game raid idea. Hopefully that's enough! Wish me luck!

About that 21 paged raid outline...that included everything about the raid, especially boss fights. I was up until 3am working on it(having started at noon that day). 10666 was the final word count.

DC Universe Online Beta!

Just to get it out there, I was invited to the DC Universe Online Beta about 10 minutes ago. I'm super excited right now...well maybe I would be if I weren't so darn tired.

Boss Fights: How do they work? (Pt. 1)

I'm a huge RPG fan and I do enjoy World of Warcraft quite a bit. One part of WoW that I really enjoy is the boss fights in each dungeon/raid. These enemies stand above those that surround them and slow your approach. But what exactly sets these bosses apart, besides the increase in health and melee damage? What defines a boss?

One of the most important aspect of the boss is the essential balance of uniqueness. The boss can't be so original that when it goes to use an attack, the player doesn't know what to do when it starts to attack. But there has to be some degree of mystery in each boss, so when a section of the floor lights up, you shouldn't know its a good thing or bad thing. The boss should also have some abilities that could be considered signature abilities. That's why Lord Marrowgar has Bone Storm. It makes him stand out. And the uniqueness should extend to its appearance. You don't want to fight a giant Murloc (I'm looking at you, Mutanus), you want to fight Yogg-Saron.

Lord Marrowgar
Boring...
F@#king awesome!
The next important factor that needs to be taken into account is whether the boss fits in. This includes whether or not it should be in the dungeon/raid and where in the dungeon/raid it should be placed. Does it deserve to be one of the main bosses or should it be demoted down to an optional bosses? (More on optional bosses to come) The backstory (Yes, everyone needs some backstory) must at least explain the origins of the boss. The backstory has to make sense and shouldn't feel like a stretch of the imagination. It has to be believable.

On placement of a boss within a dungeon, I have to repeat myself: It has to be believable. You wouldn't find a scientist in his lab in the middle of a jungle themed dungeon. But the scientist can be setting up a makeshift station. And it also has to make sense with the layout of the dungeon/raid. The fore mentioned makeshift station won't be found deep inside the jungle where it's likely to be attacked by the wildlife. It would likely be placed towards the beginning, in the thinner areas of the jungle. And thus, the boss will have to be weaker compared to boss found later in the instance. (I'll probably talk more about the design of the dungeon/raid in another post)

More in the sequel...
